Acer has been putting together a major push into the smartphone market for some time now, and now the company has revealed its strategy for accomplishing this: it plans to make very inexpensive devices.
"We want to put in front of the customer a smartphone that they can move up to for the same price as a feature phone,"
said Aymar de Lencquesaing, the head of Acer's Smart Handheld Business Group.
It's hoping to make models cheap enough that carriers can offer them for free with a new contract.
Although no U.S. wireless phone companies have announced plans to offer Acer's latest models yet, de Lencquesaing is confident that AT&T and T-Mobile USA will eventually release smartphones developed by his company.
